We lost our house... Please read on as this scam sweeps our country

MY VIRAL E-MAIL
IMPORTANT, PLEASE, PLEASE READ.  AND PLEASE FORWARD!  THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW WHAT REALLY GOING ON!
My name is Pamela Britton.  I am an author.  www.pamelabritton.com.  Recently, we almost lost our home.

We did not lose it because we were foolish with our money. We did not lose it because we lost a job.  My husband--the main bread winner in our family--has traveled hundreds of miles, staying away from home for weeks at a time, in order to make ends meet.

We almost lost it because in 2008 we opened our home to a family member who bilked us out of thousands of dollars.  We struggled to make ends meet while this was going on.  We got behind on our mortgage payments.

We explained the situation to the bank, felt blessed that they seemed willing to work with us.  "It would all work out," they reassured us.  "We were perfect candidates for Obama's new loan."

And then they posted a Foreclosure notice on our home.

"Don't worry," they said.  "It's all part of the process."  And we believed them.

Over the succeeding months we sent in our banking information, financial statements, whatever they wanted.  "Congratulations," they told us months later.  "You've qualified for a re-organzied loan."  We were overjoyed, thrilled, relieved.  Somehow we'd managed to hang on.

Or so we thought.

We signed our paperwork which included an unexpected $5000 "pay down" on what was in arrears.  We paid our monthly mortgage payments thereafter.  We were trying to come up with the $5000--paid as much as we could towards it every month--but it was a struggle to pay it down.  Thankfully, our bank seemed willing to work with us.  It was tight, but somehow God gave us the ability to stay in our home.

Until the bank took it away from us.

Unbeknown to us, our Loan Modification was cancelled.  WE NEVER RECEIVED ANY OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION.  NO NOTICES ON OUR DOOR.  NO LETTERS IN THE MAIL.  They simply disqualified us for the loan and auctioned off our house.  We learned this after receiving a Three Day Notice of Eviction.

It was the worse day of my life.  It still makes me physically ill to think about it.  We have a ten-year-old daughter.  Livestock.  Animals that will have to be given away because our only option is to find a rental home now and most landlords won't tolerate dogs and cats.  And if you've never heard a child wail in misery upon behind told that her precious pets will have to find new homes, you've never experienced true emotional pain.

Our home of nine years had been sold out from under us.  We were never given the opportunity to pay what was in arrears.  We'd been operating under the assumption that our mortgage company was telling us the truth.  That they would act with integrity and honesty and compassion towards the American people that had bailed them out.

We were wrong.

I'm writing this letter on November 5, 2010.  I'm giving you a date because I want everyone I know that this is happening NOW.  Today.  All over the place.  Because I am a writer and unafraid to share my story, I'm hearing from people all over the country.  It has happened to them, too.  And it's the same game.   Your lender will tell you they're working with you, that you've qualified for the new loan.  They will send you paperwork.  You will sign that paperwork.  You will send them money.  They will then reject your new loan without telling you.  Why?  They cannot give you a reason.  They will NOT post public notices.  They will not serve you with paperwork.  They will simply proceed with the Foreclosure process and you will NEVER be told until they sell your house out from under you.

We were lucky.  Because I retained an attorney (thank you SILICON VALLEY LAW GROUP and my wonderful sister Patti!), and because I wasn't afraid to go public with our story, we received a call from our lender's executive offices.  They offered us a deal.  We took it.  We had to sell off some assests, but we had NO problem with doing that--would have done that, anyway, had we been told we were in danger of losing our Loan Modification if we did not pay up.

But how many people have simply walked away?

Please, spread the word.  Home owners need to educate themselves.  Do NOT walk away from your property if this has happened to you.  Fight.  And forward, forward, forward.  I want to ensure the American people are made aware of what is going on.  Perhaps that way we can save someone from the heartbreak of losing their home.
